With a corporate mission of Helping Surgeons Treat Their Patients Better™, Arthrex has pioneered the field of arthroscopy and develops more than 1,000 innovative products and procedures each year that support all aspects of orthopedics. The Imaging and Resection Test Engineering Department is based in Naples, Florida and consists of Product Engineers, Design Transfer Engineers, Test Engineers, and Product Managers. The individual(s) that are chosen for this position will engage with engineers of different product portfolios to test products, perform verification and validation activities, develop and implement test fixtures, automate test methodologies, and create data collection systems to better understand and characterize our products. The individual(s) that are chosen for this position will also assist in the above activities throughout the Imaging and Resection department, ranging from Shaver, RF, Power, and Fluids product portfolios. The ideal candidate will be pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related field. Statistical analysis experience and the ability to articulate test execution steps and test findings is strongly preferred.


This internship will run from August 2022 – December 2022. The ideal candidate will have the availability to work at least 25 hours per week at our Naples, FL facility.


Main Objective:

To support design and test activities in the Imaging & Resection (I&R) Engineering Lab by creating and executing testing on Imaging and Resection products, which includes new product development, design manufacturing changes, and Cost of Goods Sold (COGS) improvements.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Project lead for developing different test method procedures (ongoing efforts to develop clogging procedures and execute test method validations).

  • Conduct research/ Design of Experiments (DOEs) to find best settings for specific products.

  • Develop performance testing for shaver blades to find the best settings and products for specific applications.

  • Perform verification and validation (V&V) procedures for existing product development.

  • Support reliability testing on various existing I&R product families for product improvements.

  • Analyze data and articulate results into protocols/reports that can be easily followed.

  • This is an in-office position located in Naples, FL; it is not a remote position.

Education and Experience:

  • Progress towards a college degree in Biomedical, Mechanical, Electrical or Software Engineering required. (Students who have recently graduated are only eligible to work as an intern/co-op up to six months from their graduation date.)
  • Statistical analysis experience preferred.


Knowledge and Skill Requirements/Specialized Courses and/or Training:

Advanced computer skills. Be able to follow written and verbal direction.


Machine, Tools, and/or Equipment Skills:

PC; Familiarity with Microsoft Outlook; PowerPoint; Word and Excel. MiniTab; Labview; Fax; Scanner.
