Arthrex Through the Years: A History of Success

  • 1981 - Arthrex Inc. is founded by President Reinhold Schmieding in Munich, Germany with the introduction of three products for minimally invasive orthopedic surgery.
  • 1984 - Arthrex moves to the U.S., establishing an office near Burlington, VT.
  • 1991 - Arthrex moves its headquarters to Naples, FL.
  • 1998 - The first arthroscopic suture-passing instruments are engineered and manufactured in the new Arthrex California Inc. location in Walnut, CA.
  • 2002 - Arthrex Manufacturing Inc. is established, making high-tech manufacturing part of the business.
  • 2003 - Corporate headquarters moves to its current location on Creekside Boulevard in Naples, FL.
  • 2003 - Arthrex Mexico begins operation.
  • 2006 - Arthrex employs 500 people in the U.S., and nearly 200 in Germany.
  • 2011 - Major expansion and renovation of Medical Education facilities, leading to more than 15,000 surgeons visiting our Naples campus each year.
  • 2013 - Arthrex Manufacturing Inc. East opens in Ave Maria, FL.
  • 2015 - Arthrex named one of the FORTUNE 100 Best Companies to Work For® in the country
  • 2017 - Expansion of global headquarters in Naples announced, as well as manufacturing facility expansion into Anderson County, SC.
  • 2018 - Arthrex employs more than 4,500 people globally.
