Main Objective: Lead, conduct, and coordinate biomechanical research studies in a laboratory setting and report findings.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Design and perform biomechanical research studies aligned with Arthrex’s strategic research initiatives to facilitate evaluation of new and existing technologies and design concepts. Such research could include:
- Static and dynamic mechanical testing
- Cadaveric testing
- Collaborate with surgeons and product management on research studies and projects.
- Participate in writing, preparation, and submission process of scientific articles.
- Perform biomechanical studies by preparing test samples, data collection, record keeping, statistical analysis, and report writing.
- Operate a variety of materials testing machines, gauges, and software to obtain requested testing results. Maintain and update records of work performed to contribute to team and personal metrics.
- Minimal travel and some flexibility of work hours may be required, including occasional evenings and weekends.
Knowledge and Skill Requirements/Specialized Courses and/or Training:
- Proficient in mechanical testing equipment and methods. Able to operate a variety of mechanical testing machines and collect data.
- General understanding of mechanical and biomechanical testing methods and principles. Familiar with ASTM testing standards.
- Knowledge of musculoskeletal anatomy, orthopedic implants, and surgical techniques.
- Ability to perform peer-reviewed literature searches.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Accurate record keeping and applies Good Document Practices.
- Able to use Microsoft Office and data analysis, statistics, and CAD software.
Education / Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical or Mechanical Engineering, or related field required.
- Experience in a biomechanical laboratory setting preferred.
- Previous work experience in Orthopedics or a related field preferred.
