As the Talent Acquisition Specialist responsible for the Internship and Co-op Program, Alyssa McCoy introduces Arthrex to the next generation and helps bring the best and brightest candidates to the company for employment consideration. Our 5 Questions series continues as we learn what goes into the college recruiting process and why the Internship and Co-op Program means something special to Alyssa.

What does a typical day at Arthrex look like for you?

As a Talent Acquisition Specialist, every day is different, which makes it exciting! My main responsibility is to partner with hiring managers across all U.S. locations to identify internship, co-op and full-time employment needs. Through intake meetings, we work together to develop recruitment strategies to attract and hire the best candidates.

With my role primarily focused on college recruitment, I coordinate and participate in university events such as career fairs, information sessions and interviews. Arthrex is growing every single year, so we now target more than 15 universities, which means I travel quite a bit.

Outside of my daily recruiting responsibilities, I continuously plan various types of onsite networking and educational events to maximize the experience for our interns and co-ops. I work very closely with our Meetings & Events team biweekly to plan and execute each event.

I am fortunate to be a part of an amazing team that helps bring top talent to Arthrex.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

There are many aspects about my job that I enjoy and find gratifying. One of the things I enjoy most is being able to work in a cross-functional setting. I engage with hiring managers in various departments to learn about their position, and I work with Marketing and Communications to produce recruitment materials. Most importantly, I interact daily with my colleagues in Human Resources to ensure a smooth onboarding process for each and every new hire.

The part of my job I find most rewarding is having the ability to guide candidates to a career path they never knew existed and, ultimately, offering a candidate their dream job. The most fulfilling, however, is seeing a student transfer from an intern to a full-time employee. This is particularly near and dear to my heart because I started here as an intern and was fortunate enough to be hired into a full-time position.

What has been a highlight during your time at Arthrex?

In 2019, I was tasked with the challenging, yet important role of overseeing the Arthrex Internship and Co-op Program. This role has given me the opportunity to pour my heart and soul into the program, which has had such a significant impact on my life, both personally and professionally.

The Arthrex Internship and Co-op Program offers an introductory role for those not only interested in exploring the medical device industry but for those who are intrigued by Arthrex and all that it has to offer.

Our core value is Making People Better. How has Arthrex made you better?

I’ve now been with Arthrex for almost a decade. In 2013, I was looking for a partnership with a company that shared my same goals and values. I found exactly what I was looking for with Arthrex.

Starting as an intern in Recruiting, which was recently renamed Talent Acquisition, I was able to get my feet wet in the world that is college recruiting. Little did I know that it would soon become my passion!

I have grown tremendously on a personal and professional level through the many opportunities Arthrex has presented over the years. Working in Talent Acquisition, I have been able to meet people all over the country and build lifelong relationships. I could not be prouder to work alongside such passionate and driven individuals each and every day.

What do you do in your downtime?

I recently relocated to the Washington, D.C., area with my husband and our dog Henley, a two-year-old mini Goldendoodle. We’ve been in our new home for just over a year, and we still love to explore. Our favorite weekend activities are discovering new wineries and outdoor hiking trails.

Besides exploring our new home, we also love to travel. We’ve been lucky to travel together not only throughout the United States but also to Europe. In Europe, we’ve only been able to explore countries on the Mediterranean, but Switzerland, Croatia and Germany are next on our list.
