Main Objective:
Designs and constructs jigs, tools, fixtures and gauges and provides machining support for production and Engineering departments.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Design, set-up and operate a variety of machines to manufacture intricate close tolerance tooling, jigs, fixtures and gauges to aid and improve accuracy and efficiency within the Assembly and Engineering departments.
- Work closely with the Engineering department in the design and manufacture of research and development projects.
- Performs production-machining and laser etching duties to specified criteria on engineering prints, work orders or standard work instructions.
- Conducts First Article Inspections as required within the department.
- Performs or initiates any cleaning on machines or housekeeping within the machine shop department.
- Works with minimal or no supervision.
- Follows all safety training requirements for the position. Notifies management and or the Safety Officer of any unsafe work conditions.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required in addition to trade school education in tool room functions and/or experience in tooling and fixture design
- Basic CNC machine programming skills required
- Knowledge and Skill Requirements/Specialized Courses and/or Training:
- Knowledge of machining processes, shop mathematics and material properties.
- Machine, Tools, and/or Equipment Skills:
- Set-up and operate lathes, mills manual and CNC, grinders, Laser marking machines and measuring equipment.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish requirements, and draw valid conclusions on a course of action. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form.
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to comprehend and apply mathematical principles to the degree required to perform the job based upon job requirements.
Language and Communication Skills:
Ability to comprehend and apply language skills to the degree required to perform the job based upon the job requirements listed above. Ability to verbally communicate ideas and issues effectively to other team members and management. Ability to write and record data and information as required by procedures.
