Arthrex is actively searching for a Sr. Director – Health Economics & Market Access. The successful candidate will work alongside a department of expert orthopedic healthcare professionals, world class faculty, and product management.
Main Objective:
The Sr. Director of Health Economics & Market Access (HEMA) will lead the development and execution of health economics and market access strategies to ensure optimal reimbursement, coverage, and patient access for Arthrex’s medical technologies. This role will work cross-functionally to align reimbursement strategies, evidence generation, and policy engagement with the product strategy and commercial goals.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Design and execute proactive reimbursement strategies to improve coding, coverage, and payment for current and future technologies.
 - Collaborate with Strategic Development and Product Management leaders to integrate reimbursement strategy into product strategy, early product development, and corporate development decisions.
 - Lead health economics and outcomes research (HEOR) initiatives, including cost-effectiveness and budget impact analyses, with the support of the Strategic Analytics team.
 - Develop and deliver strategic value communication materials and evidence-based dossiers tailored to support coverage, reimbursement, and adoption by payers, hospital value analysis committees, and integrated delivery networks.
 - Engage with CMS, private payers, physician societies, and policy-makers to influence reimbursement policy and secure favorable outcomes.
 - Monitor and respond to evolving healthcare policies and reimbursement regulations.
 - Manage and mentor a team of market access and health economics professionals.
 - Partner with Regulatory, Product Development, Strategic Development, Clinical and Biomechanical Research, Clinical Affairs, Marketing, and Sales to ensure strategic alignment.
 - Ensure compliance within the functional area and support the compliance objectives of the organization as a whole.
 - Up to 20% travel
 
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree required.
 - Graduate Degree in Health Economics, Health Policy, Biostatistics, Life Sciences, or related field preferred.
 - Minimum of 15 years of experience in health economics, market access, or reimbursement within the medical device, pharmaceutical, or biotechnology industry. Experience in orthopedics is a plus.
 - Proven track record in medical device strategic reimbursement planning required.
 
Knowledge and Skill Requirements/Specialized Courses and/or Training:
- Strategic thinker with deep understanding of reimbursement systems, payer engagement, and health policy. Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and influence senior stakeholders. Strong analytical, and communication skills.
 - Relationships with key opinion leaders who are members of select society committees, such as Coding and Nomenclature, New Technology and Practice Guidelines required.
 - Practical working knowledge of CPT coding, CMS proposed and final payment rules, and leading payer medical policies for musculoskeletal procedures is mandatory.
 - Comfort and confidence to formulate the Company’s strategic reimbursement needs when working collaboratively across multiple functional areas, specifically with Regulatory, Product Development, Clinical and Biomechanical Research, Clinical Affairs, Marketing, and Sales leaders.
 - Working knowledge of leading health policy agencies, such as CMS Coding, Medical Policy and Payment; AMA CPT Editorial Panel, and leading professional societies, such as American Association of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS), North American Spine Society (NASS), Arthroscopy Association of North America (AANA), Advanced Medical Technology (ADVAMED), etc.
 
Machine, Tools, and/or Equipment Skills:
High Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Health Policy specialized databases and research tools, health economics modeling software, and data analytics platforms.
