• 5 Questions with Inc.'s UX Designer Johnny Ansari

As a Senior User Experience (UX) Designer in the Marketing department, Johnny Ansari works with Arthrex Rep App users, like agency representatives and technology consultants, to make sure the program is user-friendly and fits their needs while also aligning with Arthrex’s business objectives.

The Arthrex Rep App is a mobile tool that houses the training materials and educational resources for agency representatives and technology consultants so they are fully equipped with all necessary information to help surgeons and other health care professionals.

Johnny has been with Arthrex for almost two years and enjoys working on motorcycles and cars and spending time with his three young daughters. Johnny says his favorite Arthrex products are the company’s variety of screws and the DrillSaw™ Power System.

“I really appreciate the screws we make at Arthrex. From the material options to the specifications, it’s all perfection,” he said. “I also really like the DrillSaw system, specifically with the sagittal saw blade because it’s such a powerful tool, yet it can be used for precision work.”

How do you impact our mission of Helping Surgeons Treat Their Patients Better™ in your role?

I'm a User Experience Designer at Arthrex primarily working on mobile applications. As UX Designer, my role is to ensure my product reflects what Arthrex stands for and is useful to our agency representatives and surgeons.

For the Arthrex Rep App, I've worked closely with our internal sales team and external agency representatives during the design process to identify their needs and validate that what the team has designed fits into their workflow. This is a critical step as representatives are our front lines on the ground working directly with surgeons.

With the Rep App, the goal is to equip our agency representatives so they are up-to-date on new techniques and 100% proficient in their knowledge and understanding of Arthrex products. Ultimately, this flow from representative to surgeon is directly Helping Surgeons Treat Their Patients Better.

What inspires you the most at Arthrex?

Overall, Arthrex’s growth is incredible, which is very inspiring. I've not experienced large, established companies growing at this rate before. This is a very exciting time, and everyone can feel this energy.

I’m also inspired by the autonomy and flexibility we have to experiment and try new things in our roles. Everything from new ideas, tools and methods to collaborations and partnerships are always considered. Knowing that nothing is out of the question keeps me engaged and inspired at Arthrex.

What is your favorite success story at Arthrex?

During my short time here, I had the chance to speak with an orthopedic surgeon who uses one of our mobile apps. The surgeon shared how he had used this tool while sitting in the car to review a surgical technique guide before walking into the operating room. This shows the work we do has a tremendous impact. If we can help surgeons stay informed on the latest technology and techniques, we are doing our jobs.

How do you describe the Arthrex culture?

Despite its success, Arthrex feels like a small company because everything and everyone is accessible and within reach, which makes the culture unique. On top of that, Arthrex invests in the people who make its success possible. There are so many things in place to ensure that employees are happy and healthy. There is always something you can be involved in like fitness and extracurricular activities. This environment allows employees to meet colleagues from other departments that they normally would not meet.

Our core value is Making People Better. How has Arthrex made you better?

Arthrex has made me better by giving me the opportunity to do work that has meaning to others. I take great satisfaction hearing about the impact my work has on surgeons and their ability to help their patients. At Arthrex, everything we do and the projects we work on have a profound impact on people in the field.

In the past, I've worked on a wide variety of products, most of which were either luxury or convenience. Arthrex is different in that I feel that what I am working on has a more meaningful impact which aligns with my values. All this makes a meaningful difference for the patient in the end.
