Software Engineer II-Marketing

THIS POSITION WILL BE BASED IN WALTHAM, MASSACHUSETTS (Boston area)

Arthrex is a global medical device company with more than 40 years of experience in the orthopedic industry. We are currently seeking a Software Engineer to join our talented and collaborative team of engineers. This individual will support the early stages of redesigning and rearchitecting our digital channels and be a part of a team of web developers in building our next-generation websites.

Main Objective: Develop, support, and maintain high-end and innovative software applications that support Arthrex’s mission of helping surgeons treat their patients better. Write high-quality, reliable, and maintainable code and collaborate in a cross-functional team environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Actively participates in software development and team ceremonies as a member of a cross functional software development team.
2. Develops software features using established patterns and technology.
3. Contributes to all aspects of the technology stack from client-side programming to developing and deploying back-end services
4. Monitors applications for abnormalities and looks for areas to improve application availability and speed.
5. Investigates and addresses bugs.
6. Conducts code reviews, provides feedback, and suggests changes as needed.
7. Continuously learn new frameworks, programming languages, and tooling. 
8. Collaborate with Design and UX to prototype user interactions
9. Mentor other front-end developers
10. Occasional travel for training, meetings or trade shows may be required.

Skills:

• Programming experience with a web or mobile language such as Ruby, Swift, Go, Python, Kotlin or Java.
• Experience in the development of web and/or mobile applications:
  • Web
    • Front-end frameworks such as React, Vue or Angular
    • Experience with a full-stack/back-end framework such as Ruby on Rails preferred
    • Relational database design
  • Mobile
    • iOS and/or Android experience
    • Swift and/or Kotlin preferred
    • SwiftUI or UIKit a plus

Experience with distributed version control systems such as Git.

•    Experience developing and supporting web and/or mobile applications in a professional environment.
•    Basic knowledge of web/mobile standards, device compatibility and responsive design
•    Experience working with RESTful web services
•    Experience using agile software development methodologies

Discretion/Latitude:

Works under very general supervision. Work is reviewed for soundness of judgment and overall adequacy and accuracy

Education/Experience:

•    High school diploma or equivalent required 
•    Bachelor’s degree preferred
•    2 years of professional experience or Bachelor’s degree plus 1 year of software development experience

Machine, Tools, and/or Equipment Skills:
Experience working with code editors, team collaboration software. Individual must feel comfortable using the command line. Experience with macOS is a plus.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.  Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Mathematical Skills
Ability to comprehend and apply mathematical principles to the degree required to perform the job based upon job requirements.  

Language and Communication Skills:
Ability to comprehend and apply language skills to the degree required to perform the job based upon the job requirements listed above.  Ability to verbally communicate ideas and issues effectively to other team members and management.  Ability to write and record data and information as required by procedures.
