We are seeking a Sr. DevOps Engineer I to support the development, maintenance and optimization of software supporting orthopedic surgeons worldwide.  Qualified candidates must have a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience including developing and managing production systems, contributing to entire software development lifecycle, and leading projects.  High school diploma or equivalent required, bachelor’s degree preferred.

The ideal candidate would work from our Santa Barbara location; however, we are open to full-time remote anywhere in the United States.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides technical leadership in the development and management of web applications infrastructure for multiple applications.
  • Develops automation systems for continuous integration and deployment.
  • Provisions and manages cloud infrastructure using automated tools.
  • Researches, assesses, and implements new technologies to improve infrastructure and automation processes.
  • Collaborates with Developers to ensure that operations are aligned with the design and development process.
  • Monitors applications for abnormalities and proposes areas of improvement.
  • Proactively communicates ideas, results, recommendations, and status effectively in oral and written forms.
  • Works closely with other teams including software quality assurance and GIS security to ensure compliance.
  • Actively participates in determining goals of assignments.
  • Creates and maintains internal and external documentation.
  • Reviews internal documentation for standard operating procedures.
  • Ensures best practices and documentation procedures are followed.
  • Remains current with ISO/FDA standards and internal quality assurance policies.
  • Coaches and mentors junior level engineers.  May have direct reports.



  • High school diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience including developing and managing production systems required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of contributing to entire software development lifecycle required.
  • Proven experience leading projects required.


Required Technical Skills:

  • Proficient with scripting languages such as Python, Bash, or Awk.
  • Proficient with build tools and pipelines such as Jenkins, Bitbucket Pipelines, CircleCI, Artifactory, etc.
  • Experience with automation tools such as Terraform, Puppet, Chef, Vagrant, etc.
  • Experience managing Linux servers in a production environment.
  • Experience with logging, performance monitoring and performance tuning tools.
  • Experience provisioning and managing cloud services, AWS preferred.
  • Knowledge of distributed version control systems such as Git or Bitbucket.
  • Knowledge of container runtimes and orchestration tools such as Docker or Kubernetes.


Preferred Technical Skills:

  • Experience managing relational or NoSQL database servers.
  • Experience supporting developers with query tuning and database design.
  • Experience implementing high-availability concepts and applications.
  • Experience working in an Agile/Scrum environment utilizing JIRA.
  • Knowledge of security tooling and resources (i.e. Endpoint, Application, Scanning, Detection, Telemetry, Forensics, Operations).
  • Understanding of development/coding methodologies required.
  • Understanding of cloud security, identity, and compliance, preferably in AWS.
