Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Leads and manages a team of in-house and contract software engineers to ensure robust, sustainable and scalable software products and components are built and delivered according to schedule commitments.
  • Drives the attraction, growth and retention of top software engineering talent through a combination of face to face mentorship and professional development plans and efforts.
  • Actively participates in planning for the future staffing and tools needed to achieve business objectives and future growth.
  • Performs annual performance reviews.  Makes employment decisions and ensures a harmonious and productive work environment through effective and periodic individual/team meetings and effective performance management.
  • Responsible for Software Design and Development SOPs in compliance with relevant governing standards and best practices.
  • Participates in gathering stakeholder needs and acts as the champion ensuring that non-functional requirements which enable maintenance, scaling and deployment are considered during the development process.
  • Sets and enforces development standards in partnership with the other software engineering managers, Architect and Software Engineering Director, to achieve optimum quality and velocity.
  • Supports Project management for task estimation and status reporting throughout the projects.
  • Provides Technical leadership - actively participate in software architectural design.
  • Evaluates technological choices (both network/hardware related and technology/code related) including ROI evaluations in the present and future, implications, limitations, and opportunities.
  • Maintains issue tracking and documentation systems and provides reporting that ensures proper tracking and visibility of issues and projects.
  • Manages the technical debt for the existing systems and code base and is able to articulate current tech debt and projected resource needs to management.

Education and Experience: 

  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in in Computer Science or related field. 
  • 8 years of software development experience required.
  • 5 years of technical leadership experience required. 
  • Software engineering management experience preferred.

 

Knowledge and Skill Requirements/Specialized Courses and/or Training:

  • Working understanding of a wide range of technologies from the OS (Windows, Linux, Android and iOS), Network, (TCP/IP, smtp, etc…) Application and Database perspective preferred.
  • Knowledge of at least one scripting language (Bash, Shell, Python) preferred.
  • Experience with debugging complex problems through configuration files, logs, and code pieces to determine source of failure required.
  • Firm understanding of software security implications and best practices preferred.
  • Possesses excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group of developers, product owners, and subject matter experts.
  • Experience developing software products in a regulated environment, especially medical, preferred.

 

Machine, Tools, and/or Equipment Skills:  PC servers, workstations and laptops. Microsoft environment. Experience with standard current computer applications, word processing, spreadsheets, enterprise applications such as ERP, MES, PLM and CRM.
