Main Objective:

The Cost Accountant II position is accountable for the ongoing analysis of cost, forecasts, budgets and tracing costs back to underlying activities. The role will provide accurate financial and statistical data in order for management to make timely and informed decisions concerning financial performance of the business.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Analyze actual manufacturing costs and prepare periodic reports comparing actual production costs to standard costs with variance analysis
  • Prepare monthly and periodic departmental spending reports for various Operations department Managers
  • Generate scrap reporting results by product line, analyzing and providing corresponding support for monthly variances
  • Develop more efficient month-end reporting templates to increase visibility of key spending drivers
  • Responsible for establishing and maintaining effective relationships across the business to understand the business and the primary drivers, goals, and the needs of partners and internal customers
  • Participate in the development of the annual budget for all plant departments
  • Calculate standard costs related to new product development and product line extensions
  • Ensure accuracy of month-end accounting entries and month-end reporting variances
  • Support quarterly and annual audit processes and annual physical inventory counts

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or similar field required
  • 3 years experience required; preferably in a manufacturing environment
  • Detailed understanding of cost accounting and general accounting principles
  • Experience with SAP standard costing functions highly preferred
  • Intermediate experience with Microsoft Excel highly preferred.


Knowledge and Skill Requirements/Specialized Courses and/or Training:

  • Strong Accounting Knowledge
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office. Cognos or TM1 experience preferred.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects with daily requirements
  • Ability to think, act and work independently with high attention to detail and strong problem solving
  • Excellent organizational, written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills required.


Machine, Tools, and/or Software Skills:

Proficiency in Excel/Microsoft Office preferred.


Reasoning Ability:

Has the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.  Has the ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions, in mathematical or diagram form, and to deal with several abstract and concrete variables.


Mathematical Skills

Has the ability to comprehend and apply mathematical principles to the degree required to perform the job based upon job requirements. 


Language and Communication Skills:

Has the ability to comprehend and apply language skills to the degree required to perform the job based upon the job requirements listed above.  Has the ability to verbally communicate ideas and issues effectively to other team members and management.  Has the ability to write and record data and information as required by procedures.
