With a corporate mission of Helping Surgeons Treat Their Patients Better™, Arthrex has pioneered the field of arthroscopy and develops more than 1,000 innovative products and procedures each year that support all aspects of orthopedics. The Imaging and Resection Test Engineering Department is based in Naples, Florida and consists of Product Engineers, Design Transfer Engineers, Test Engineers, and Product Managers. The Co-ops chosen for this position will engage with engineers of different product portfolios to test products, perform verification and validation activities, develop and implement test fixtures, automate test methodologies, and create data collection systems to better understand and characterize our products. The individuals will also assist in the above activities throughout the Imaging and Resection department, ranging from Shaver, RF, Power, and Fluid’s product portfolios. The ideal candidate will be pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related field. Statistical analysis experience and the ability to articulate test execution steps and test findings is strongly preferred.

 

This Co-op will run from January 2023 – June 2023. The ideal candidate will have the availability to work 40 hours per week at our Naples, FL facility.

 

Main Objective:

Co-op will work with the Imaging & Resection Test Engineering department to gain experience in research, design, testing, and manufacturing of medical devices.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • The student will be mentored on the process of determining types of tests to be performed to adequately evaluate product performance.
  • The student will apply principles that he or she has learned in school to hands-on situations, such as strength analysis, functional testing, failure analysis and documentation of results.
  • The student will be responsible for research, testing & analysis and will receive progressive responsibility.
  • Will identify and recommend process improvements for consumable manufacturing and evaluation.
  • Student will attend regular departmental meeting.
  • Student will attend training sessions, symposiums, etc. as required.
  • Will perform or review systems analysis, testing, and documentation for various product lines.
  • Participate in project team for assigned projects; analyze improvements and new product or applications and develops requirements and specifications with team.
  • Works within specifications provided to meet project goals and objectives in a timely and accurate manner
  • Effectively works with peers, project team members, and other departments in new product development, product line extensions, and product enhancements
  • Other duties as assigned
  • This is an in-office position located in Naples, FL; it is not a remote position.

 

Education and Experience:

  • Enrolled as a full-time student pursuing a Bachelor's Degree with major in Mechanical, Industrial or Biomedical Engineering or related discipline, or a recent graduate. (Students who have recently graduated are only eligible to work as an intern/co-op up to six months from their graduation date.)
  • Must have a minimum grade point average of 3.0

 

Knowledge and Skill Requirements /Specialized Courses and/or Training:

Ability to effectively communicate, orally and in writing and possess the ability to work through technical issues

 

Machine, Tools, and/or Equipment Skills:

Knowledge of surgical equipment and instrumentation, mechanical testing equipment, PC, ProEngineer or other 3D modeling software a plus
