Arthrex is a global medical device company and leader in orthopedics medical education. With a corporate mission of Helping Surgeons Treat Their Patients Better™, Arthrex has pioneered the field of arthroscopy and develops more than 1,000 innovative products and procedures each year that support all aspects of orthopedics. The Global Language Management (GLM) team in Naples, Florida is responsible for the translation of marketing, technical, and software content in 32 languages. GLM’s terminology management group is responsible for producing guidelines and methodology to ensure effective accessibility and re-use of terminology across all content streams within the organization. We are searching for an intern pursuing a degree in Translation, Localization, Linguistics, Interpreting, or Natural Language Processing to support the GLM team. The successful candidate will assist the Terminology and Translation Analysts in implementing Arthrex’s terminology management strategy and ensure the GLM team provides quality language services to internal stakeholders and external vendors. This role provides the intern with an opportunity to complement their education and to develop professional skills within an innovative global enterprise.

 

This internship will run from May 2022 – August 2022. The ideal candidate will have the availability to work 40 hours per week at our Naples, FL facility.

 

Main Objective:

To provide specialized terminology assistance to ensure effective accessibility and re-use of terminology.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide multilingual terminology management support, including general terminology database maintenance, respond to terminology queries, and validation of translated terms.

  • Contribute to the cleanup and consolidation of the Arthrex Dictionary and translation memories.

  • Participate in terminology roundtables.

  • Assist in reporting on terminology metrics

  • Add relationships between concepts in the database, where appropriate.

  • This is an in-office position located in Naples, FL; it is not a remote position.

 

Education and Experience:

  • Progress towards a college degree in Translation, Localization, Linguistics, Interpreting, or Natural Language Processing required. (Students who have recently graduated are only eligible to work as an intern/co-op up to six months from their graduation date.
  • Previous experience in medical translation and/or healthcare interpreting is preferred.

 

Knowledge and Skill Requirements/Specialized Courses and/or Training:

  • Basic to intermediate computer skills.
  • Be able to follow written and verbal direction.
  • Knowledge of theory and practice of terminology.
  • Familiarity with terminology management, corpus management, or CAT tools.
  • Solid understanding of terminological and reference research techniques related to specialized terminology.
  • Excellent command of English with knowledge of Japanese, Russian, Portuguese, or Spanish.
  • Good analytical, communication and organizational skills.

 

Machine, Tools, and/or Equipment Skills:

PC; Familiarity with Microsoft Outlook; PowerPoint; Word and Excel. Fax; Scanner.
