Arthrex is a global medical device company and leader in orthopedics medical education. Arthrex Inc is actively seeking a Staff Accountant II who will perform general accounting duties, in conjunction with State and Local Taxation (SALT), GST, 1099 (NEC, MISC, etc.), 1042-S, and Personal Property Tax (TPPT) reconciliation and preparation. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Reconcile Sales and Use Tax (SUT), Consumer’s Use Tax (CUT), Excise, and GST data between Vertex tax system and primary SAP/ERP system.  Resolve variances, prepare returns and payments. 
  • Prepare and file business annual reports, and license renewals for state and local taxes
  • Research tax regulations on a state-by-state basis, to determine taxability of materials and/or services sold or purchased. 
  • Review customer and vendor invoices to verify accuracy of tax calculations
  • Update tax mapping and tax assist rules in Vertex tax software or SAP/ERP Systems as applicable.
  • Maintain historical archive of filed returns, reports, and records electronically
  • Prepare periodic reports, as needed, such as summarizing SUT, CUT, Excise, GST, TPPT, 1042-s and 1042 data on a monthly, quarterly, or annual basis
  • Reconcile 1099 reports, file extensions, mail forms to the recipients, file reports with the IRS, and audit W-9 files.
  • Reconcile 1042-S/1042 reports for non-domestic persons or entities, mailing 1042-S forms to the recipients, filing 1042-S and 1042 reports on time with the IRS, and auditing W-8 forms on file.
  • Reconcile backup withholding reports and ensure payments to the IRS are made timely
  • Assist in SUT, CUT, Excise, GST, TPPT, 1099, 1042-S and/or 1042 Tax audit preparation that may include preparing reports, compiling backup, responding to auditors, researching statutes, contesting audit exceptions
  • Assist in special accounting projects, to improve processes, or to provide information/reports, and generate instructions for department use
  • Review exempt certificates, monitor expiration dates and request updated exemption certificates

 

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor degree in accounting required
  • 2 years relevant experience required
  • Prior sales tax or AP experience preferred

 

Knowledge and Skill Requirements/Specialized Courses and/or Training:

  • Strong Accounting Knowledge
  • Good Organizational Skills
  • Ability to work independently, as well as with a team
  • Ability to effectively coordinate activities with other departments
  • Ability to multi-task

 

Machine, Tools, and/or Software Skills:

PC, Microsoft Office Suite 2007, online/intranet based corporate banking/treasury management software, enterprise-based ERP systems with integrated sales/use tax compliance software, and fixed asset modules, office equipment. Preferred prior experience in SAP, Vertex Sales/Use Tax Q Series and Excel

 

Reasoning Ability:

Has the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Has the ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions, in mathematical or diagram form, and to deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
