Main Objective:

The Arthrex Medical Affairs Department has built a large educational web and learning management system presence. This position will work closely with stakeholders to ensure the continued accuracy and timely placement or removal of content on the many web properties maintained by Medical Affairs. To assist in the development and improvement of processes and   standards for content management.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

Subject Matter Leadership

  • Partner with all MedAffairs divisions to support their unique asset needs
  • Subject matter expert (core team member, team representative, etc.) in initiatives related to their focus areas (ex. Digital Asset Management Systems, Archives, etc.).
  • Partner with different teams for alignment with their existing and future content needs.
  • Plans and executes Digital Asset Management team projects and initiatives and facilitates communication between stakeholders, team members, etc.
  • Assist in the regional language(s) support on all Medica Affairs digital assets

 

Scientific Research – Medical Librarianship

  • Conduct independent and directed scientific research inquiries focused on orthopedics and related topics
  • Collect and catalogue research assets for future reference
  • Create bibliographies and digital records while exercising due diligence by verifying accuracy of references and the format of citations in cataloging

 

Reference Librarianship

  • Ensures that all requests received by the Content and Distribution Team are handled within the expected service level agreements.
  • If not assigned to the task, keeps track to ensure a satisfactory completion.
  • Notify stakeholders of distributed content or changes to content status

 

Governance

  • Assists in Development and maintenance of new workflows, standards, etc. for which the team is responsible (ex. Reference Number Standards, Filename Conventions, Metadata schema, etc.)
  • Facilitates development and maintenance of team’s technical

documentation (Training, Workflow Documents, etc.)

  • Work with company Compliance and Legal Departments to ensure adherence to global privacy and industry compliance requirements

 

Cataloguing and Data Management

  • Applies appropriate metadata and security to assets utilizing the established metadata standards.
  • Validate accuracy of existing metadata.
  • Works with all MedAffairs divisions and business partners to support to ensure the successful ingesting and downloading of digital assets in supported systems.
  • Stay current on trends in the industry.
  • Collect and catalogue MedAffairs digital assets with metadata that will allow future reference

Training and Onboarding

  • Leads training and education for team members, colleagues, etc. in any areas of focus (including Digital Asset Management, Archives, Metadata Maintenance, Taxonomy, etc.)
  • Develops and facilitates training of new team members (including full time employees, Co-ops, and Interns etc.)

 

 

Education and Experience:

 

  • Master’s degree, from a library or information science program (MLS/MLIS) accredited by the American Library Association is required
  • 5 years of related experience as a Medical Librarian is required

 

Knowledge/Skills:

 

Communication

  • Strong written communication skills, particularly spelling and vocabulary and verbal skills, including in-person and telephone.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management.

Leadership

  • 3 years of managing direct reports is preferred

General

  • Familiarity with medical vocabulary is required
  • Expertise and familiarity in digital medical library platforms such as Google Scholar, MEDLINE/PubMed is required
  • Ability to lead multiple small projects with different and converging timelines.
  • Superior organization, multi-tasking, and time management skills
  • Strong research, analysis, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work on tight deadlines while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a time-sensitive work environment.
  • Understanding of Taxonomy development; Controlled Vocabularies; Ontology
  • Adapts well to changes of priority and focus and assists team members with adoption of new policies, procedures, workflows, etc.
  • Understanding of Digital Asset Management, metadata practices, essential cataloging protocols.

Technical

  • Knowledge of digital file formats is required
  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office Suite is required
  • Proficiency in Digital Asset Management Systems
  • Proficiency in Content Management Systems is preferred
  • Familiarity with coding languages such as JSON, HTML, CSS, etc. is preferred
  • Proficiency with reference management software (i.e., Mendeley and EndNote) is preferred
