Program Manager:

The Program Manager is primarily responsible for leadership, coordination, and successful implementation of complex projects and/or programs and is central to the enablement of our value delivery model through supporting frameworks, processes, and tools. This role helps successfully align the IT teams to the strategic objectives of customer platform or process roadmaps. The Program Manager leverages their breadth of platform, technology, and process management knowledge to own the implementation of key projects & initiatives in the IT portfolio to realize long-term strategic value to the organization’s customers and stakeholders. This includes adhering to policies and procedures necessary to ensure efficient and effective execution of a portfolio of programs, progress reporting, and assistance in resolution of obstacles and challenges. The Program Manager should have in-depth knowledge of industry best practices project management tools and techniques.

 

Program Manager Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Program Manager may need to perform Project Manager duties as needed.
  • Facilitate and lead the development of the overall approach for the program, its major time frames, and the definition of its major deliverables to address and meet the desired outcomes.
  • Provide stakeholders with a consolidated view of all key activities within the program.
  • Own and drive business improvements through collaboration with business departments and functional areas.
  • Oversee the execution of program projects, their progress compared with the plan, and the production of agreed deliverables.
  • Ensure and balance the availability of the required skills and competencies across project teams.
  • Establish and ensure appropriate governance functions for the program, in accordance with enterprise policies and practices, on behalf of the executive sponsor or senior responsible owner.
  • Lead reviews with the executive sponsor and stakeholders to identify organic or specific program needs and changes and directs the development of appropriate approaches to address.
  • Act as an advisor and build and maintain relationships across the wider stakeholder community.
  • Monitor and coordinate dependencies across the projects in the program, find cross-functional opportunities and contribute to removing impediments/conflicts that prevent the team from meeting its commitments.
  • Facilitate and/or lead strategic planning and roadmap sessions with business and IT management to determine the prioritization, scope, and objectives of projects within a portfolio.
  • Identify opportunities for elevating team performance through better processes & interactions.
  • Act as central point of contact for assigned program(s) and partners with IT PMO to track major portfolio initiatives that require organizational visibility and/or impact other teams downstream.
  • Stay current on program related products and features, scan for new products and features in the market, and apply that knowledge and best practices.
  • The Program Manager may have matrixed management responsibility of other project managers (internal and/or external) for large, multi-year programs.

 

Additional Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist and/or support the IT PMO leadership with the administration of PPM tools including project and portfolio reporting
  • Perform peer reviews of project documentation, as requested, to ensure compliance with standards
  • Responsible for stakeholder management
  • Participate in strategic planning and roadmap sessions with business & IT management to determine the scope and objectives of project management
  • Drive project team efficiency through innovation; suggest continuous process improvement of project management practices
  • Participate in project management-based initiatives within the community both internally and externally to Arthrex
  • Work independently, as well as leading multiple project teams
  • Apply industry best practice knowledge of SDLC and various system and project management methodologies
  • Provide mentorship and coaching to others within IT performing a PM role
  • Confidently lead programs, associated projects, and/or technology areas with full project life cycle management
  • Partner with Program Managers across organizations and business functions to establish best practices, tools, and methods for project management and to coordinate business-led projects
  • Host workshops on new learnings and discoveries across existing and/or new platforms

Specialized Skills

  • Strategic thinker
  • Experience managing projects through a PMO is strongly preferred
  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills
  • Ability to build, nurture, and maintain relationships with all levels of the organization from IT staff to senior/executive management
  • Lean & Six Sigma certification is a plus
  • Agile/Scrum certification is a plus
  • Prior experience leading global, enterprise-wide implementations
  • Exceptional organizational skills
  • Excellent negotiating, influencing, and conflict resolution skills
  • Exceptional collaboration skills with careful attention to detail
  • Experience with enterprise PPM tool(s)
  • Proven influential leadership skills with excellent organizational and emotional intelligence
  • Experience managing large cross-functional matrixed project/program teams
  • Experience in large IT organizations, and familiarity with IT operations and their processes
  • High degree of political sensitivity, astuteness, and the ability to influence to achieve program success and overcome obstacles
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to explain and “sell” program goals and objectives to the business, as well as technical leadership
  • Strong business acumen, including industry and domain specific knowledge of the organization and its business units
  • Familiarity with industry trends and innovation
  • PMP or PgMP certification strongly preferred

 

Education/Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent preferred
  • 12 + years of relevant work experience required
