Arthrex, Inc. is a global medical device company and a leader in new product development and medical education in orthopedics located in sunny Naples, FL. We are searching for a co-op pursuing a Biology/Biochemistry/Biomedical Engineering/Bioengineering or similar degree with at least one semester of extracurricular research experience to support the Orthobiologics Research team. The Orthobiologics Research team collaborates with product development engineers to drive new product innovation, collects data to support marketing efforts, and investigates causes of user complaints. The ideal candidate is willing to take the lead on orthopedic research projects and be comfortable with independent work. Tasks will include: literature review, experimental planning, research execution, data analysis, and report preparation. The co-op must be comfortable learning about and applying new lab techniques. The successful candidate will be excited to learn, excellent at time management, able to learn from their mistakes, and able to build working relationships with internal departments. This Co-op will run from January 2024 – June 2024. The ideal candidate will have the availability to work 40 hours per week at our Naples, FL facility.

 

Main Objective:

To support and assist the Orthobiologics/Vet Research Team with research projects.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Literature review of current experimental methodologies and studies investigating OrthoBiologics products.
  • Experimental planning (selecting appropriate assays and techniques to answer research question).
  • Research execution in wet lab setting.
  • Data analysis (prepare graphs/charts, draw conclusions, basic statistical analysis).
  • Communicate results of experiments to engineers and product management via reports and/or presentations.
  • This is an in-office position located in Naples, FL; it is not a remote position.

 

Education and Experience:

  • Enrolled as a full-time student pursuing a Bachelor's or Master’s Degree required, preferably in Biology, Biochemistry, Biomedical Engineering or Bioengineering, or similar area of study. (Students who have recently graduated are only eligible to work as an intern/co-op up to six months from their graduation date.)
  • Experience with mammalian cell cultures required.
  • Familiarity with aseptic technique required.
  • Basic knowledge of lab safety required.
  • At least one semester of extracurricular research experience preferred.
  • Technical report writing experience preferred.
  • Excellent lab documentation and organization skills preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of anatomy/ physiology a plus.
  • Must have a minimum grade point average of 3.0.

 

Machine, Tools, and/or Equipment Skills:

  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) required.
  • Minitab or SigmaPlot experience preferred.
  • Pipetting preferred.
