Main Objective:

The OrthoBiologics/Vet Engineering Department is seeking a Co-op to support OrthoBiologics related studies and testing responsibilities that evaluate autologous cellular or allogenic tissue product lines. This data primarily supports: (a) product development projects, (b) product design improvements or (c) regulatory submissions with the FDA or foreign regulatory bodies. The Biologics Research Co-op is also responsible for various aspects of laboratory maintenance and as well as generating reports on findings from both individual or team based research projects.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Focuses on autologous biologic products with an emphasis on hematological testing via CBC analysis and ELISA.
  • Assists in aspects of early stage research projects, including cell-based in vitro work to support new product research and maintenance of existing products.
  • Preparation of written reports and various engineering test environments.
  • Implements protocols for lab equipment and maintains equipment as necessary.
  • Some work will be performed on cadaveric subjects or tissues.

Education and Experience:

  • Enrolled as a full-time student pursuing a Bachelor's Degree with major in Biology, Chemistry, Biomedical Engineering or related discipline. 
  • Must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
  • Prior work in a laboratory setting would be highly advantageous.
  • Experience with biological or chemical testing equipment and mammalian cell culture is preferred. 


Knowledge and Skill Requirements/Specialized Courses and/or Training:

Should have basic understanding of biological and chemical test equipment. Must be able or willing to use all equipment in a proficient manner to acquire data/test results. Good documentation skills and the ability to write accurate test procedures/summaries/reports upon completion of requested tests required. Knowledge of basic anatomy and ASTM standards for medical devices a plus.

Instruments used will include:

  • CBC Analyzer
  • Fluorescent Microscope
  • Spectrophotometer
  • Flow Cytometer
  • Manual and automatic pipette
  • pH meter
