Main Objective:

Work to provide anatomically accurate 3D printed medical models for all aspects of surgical techniques, and education targeted for orthopedic surgeons.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Create and edit technically accurate medical 3D models and textures. These models will be used in Medical Education materials targeted for orthopedic surgeons. Materials include anatomically correct models of major joint or other valid orthopedic structures. Primarily focused on bony anatomy, soft tissue, and other related features.
• Works productively and harmoniously with Department Managers, 3D animators, Product managers, and medical education.
• Assists to create 3D models or edit, animation and textures using computer graphics software.
• Evaluates and recommends new methods, materials, and equipment for use in medical modeling, including hardware and software.
• Follows standards and guidelines for consistent corporate identity outlined in both the Marketing and Medical Visualization style guides.
• Observes surgical demonstrations including cadaver dissections where appropriate.
• Produces 3D models that are applicable for 3D printing or 3D visualization
• Ensures that models are made to achieve objectives, to specifications, and to high standards
• Meets and attempts to exceed delivery expectations through frequent and clear communication

 Education and Experience:

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• BS/BA Degree or at least 5 years of applicable experience required
  • Experience related to 3D modeling and design
  • Engineering or Medical background desired but not necessary
  • Computer Graphics/Video Games/Animation or other related experience

Knowledge and Skill Requirements/Specialized Courses and/or Training:

• General proficiency in medical thresholding or segmentation
  • • Any medical segmentation software such as 3D Slicer, OsiriX, TeraRecon, etc.
    • Materialise Mimics proficiency desired
    • Any related software not mentioned above
• Advanced proficiency in 3D Modeling, either in organic or parametric. Both preferred but not required.
  • Organic modeling
    • Materialise 3matic or equivalent software (Geomagic FreeForm, etc.)
    • Materialise Magics or equivalent software (MeshMixer, 3DXpert etc.)
  • CAD parametric modeling
    • Solidworks or equivalent software (AutoCAD, etc.)
• General proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite or equivalent
• High Sense of urgency to complete projects in a timely manner
• Excellent communication and organizational skills
• Limited knowledge of orthopedic anatomy, and medical terminology preferred
• Previous experience modeling or segmenting anatomically accurate models preferred
• Materialise Magics, 3-matic, and Mimics experience preferred

• Proficiency in Maya, 3D Studio Max, or ZBrush preferred
• Proficiency in working with textures and/or high-quality rendering preferred

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
