Arthrex, Inc. is a global medical device company and a leader in new product development and medical education in orthopedics.  Arthrex is actively searching for a Director of Transportation to join our Transportation team at our Fort Myers, FL Logistics Center.  This individual will be responsible for providing leadership and operational oversite of the Transportation function and will develops and execute Global Transportation strategies in collaboration with Operations leadership.  Excellent communication skills, at least ten years of experience leading a transportation function, proven leadership experience and a bachelor’s degree are essential for this position.  Join our talented team at a global medical device company focused on Helping Surgeons Treat Their Patients Better™.

 

Main Objective:

The Director, Transportation provides leadership and operational oversite of the Transportation function. Develops and executes Global Transportation strategies in collaboration with Operations leadership. Plans and leads projects to add capabilities and reviews functional processes and technologies to support growth and busines objectives. Leads and mentors Transportation team members to help them develop a continuous process improvement mindset.  Maintains relationships with transportation service providers (domestic and international), inter-facility transport, air freight, small parcel and all other transportation modes.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Collaborates with warehousing and international logistics teams to develop strategies to address global business growth and customer demands.
  2. Provides management and mentoring to the Transportation staff.
  3. Works with senior management to negotiate transportation contracts.
  4. Manages domestic and international transportation functions to find and utilize quality carriers with best services and cost.
  5. Ensures the integrity of the transportation and freight payment auditing process.
  6. Works with customers, suppliers and carriers to implement continuous improvement initiatives to improve service and save cost.
  7. Tracks and analyzes transportation trends to assist in planning and carrier bids.
  8. Owns and communicates the effective resolution of delivery failures and provides timely reporting on carrier performance and cost.
  9. Oversees strict execution and control policies and procedures for transportation.
  10. Effectively communicates to achieve transportation team and company objectives. 
  11. Routinely works with subsidiaries and Agencies to develop strategies to improve the efficiency of transportation and logistics programs.
  12. Directs the Logistics Operations Center and staff to provide exceptional service and value to all internal and external customers.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required; preferably in business or logistics.  Masters preferred.
  • 15 years of relevant experience, 10 years leading a transportation function required
  • Experience with international transportation environments
  • Demonstrated ability to lead & inspire cross-functional teams to deliver enhanced business capabilities
  • Experience with and ability to work in cross-cultural business settings preferred, multi-lingual a plus 
  • Experience with multi-distribution / transportation network preferred

 

Knowledge and Skill Requirements/ Specialized Courses and/or Training:

Advanced knowledge of carrier-related functions and operations including international clearance processes and transportation. Basic knowledge of transportation law.  Good understanding of freight claims procedures.  Certifications in shipping regulations is helpful.  Experience with Process Weaver or similar software a plus.

Proficient software skills: Word/ Excel/ Power Point/database, research tools, internet search tools.
