With a corporate mission of Helping Surgeons Treat Their Patients Better™, Arthrex has pioneered the field of arthroscopy and develops more than 1,000 innovative products and procedures each year that support all aspects of orthopedics. The Injection Molding Engineering department, located in Ave Maria, FL, is responsible for supporting and developing new and existing injection molding products. We are searching for a student pursuing a Plastics Engineering degree to support the Injection Molding Engineering team. The successful candidate will perform Robust Mold Trials on existing tools to optimize processes and support validation activities. The role will be project based as well as support for current continuous improvement activities.


This Co-op will run from January 2023 – June 2023. The ideal candidate will have the availability to work 40 hours per week at our Ave Maria, FL facility.


Main Objective:  

Under direct supervision will work with the Manufacturing Engineering – Injection Molding department in order to gain experience in Manufacturing Engineering duties including, but not limited to, repairing, maintaining, specifying, developing and improving Injection molding tooling, parts, processes and equipment throughout Arthrex Manufacturing. 


Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

  1. Complete Robust Mold Trials.  

  1. Complete Process control sheets for production team. 

  1. Installation, Operational and Performance Qualification execution.  

  1. First Article Inspection process completions. 

  1. Troubleshoot Injection molding processes. 

  1. New Medical device project and product development. 

  1. Tooling focus potential. 

  1. Product ME focus potential. 

  1. Operations/Quality focus potential. 

  1. Interacts with all Arthrex subsidiaries/Quality/IT/Finance departments. 

  1. Processes and documentation review/updates. 

  1. This is an in-office position located in Ave Maria, FL; it is not a remote position. 


Education and Experience: 

  • Pursuing undergraduate degree or recent graduate in Plastics Engineering, Plastics Engineering Technology or related major required. (Students who have recently graduated are only eligible to work as an intern/co-op up to six months from their graduation date.) 

  • Advanced Injection molding processing class preferred. 

  • Must have a minimum grade point average of 3.0. 


Knowledge and Skill Requirements/Specialized Courses and/or Training: 

Full working knowledge of purchasing concepts. Good organizational, financial and negotiation skills. Working knowledge of SAP or compatible MRP systems preferred.  


Machine, Tools, and/or Equipment Skills: 

Injection molding machine familiarity, Decoupled molding knowledge, Microsoft Office/Windows.
