5 Questions with Production Coordinator Ashley Parker

Since joining the Arthrex Manufacturing Inc. South Carolina (AMISC) team in May, Production Coordinator Ashley Parker says she has found a new purpose and drive at Arthrex. The life-long South Carolina resident brings more than 11 years of medical manufacturing experience to the team and is currently working toward her MBA with a concentration in leadership and management from Southern Wesleyan University. In this latest edition of our 5 Questions series, find out what Ashley loves about working at a start-up, the growth she’s seen and how Arthrex feels like family.

What does a typical day at Arthrex look like for you?

Right now a typical day for a start-up operation like AMISC is never the same but I really like that it affords me the opportunity to learn new things. Some days I hit the ground running while others are spent learning new systems. I came from more of an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software and Manufacturing Execution System (MES) background, so I take every opportunity I can to learn from different people here on site about SAP. I’m proud to say I have had a hand in setting up different stations so our departments can continue to grow even more.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

There are two things I enjoy the most about this job:

1. Helping people through our products – many who I probably will never meet but I have seen the positive effects that medical manufacturing can have on someone’s life and just how that truly changes the individual and their families. That in turn makes my job more enjoyable.

2. The people – Not only the people here at our AMISC facility but the wonderful people who I had the opportunity to train with for three weeks at Arthrex Manufacturing Inc. East (AMIE). I have never met nicer people who don’t just smile through you but at you. They’re genuine people with big hearts to back it up. It really feels like a family here. I feel like I am talking to someone who genuinely cares about me, people I know I can count on and call on at both facilities.

What has been a highlight during your time at Arthrex?

The highlight of my time here so far has been watching all the new faces come through the doors. A lot of growth has happened since I started in May. I was hired as number 34 for our site and now we’re at close to 150 employees. We’ve gone from sharing space at a temporary office to moving into the new buildings. I’ve seen the site have hardly anything in the space to a full-blown operation in what seemed to be overnight. I’m beyond blessed to have been a part of the first 50 employees to be hired and to help start up this location.

Arthrex’s core value is Making People Better. How has Arthrex made you better?

Arthrex has made me a better individual and leader and I have found a new purpose and drive for life. I am so thankful for this job and the AMISC family I get to work with every day. I can’t stop telling people how wonderful Arthrex is and I hope to be here until I retire because I wake up every day loving where I get to come to work!

What do you do in your downtime?

My wife and I have been together for 13 years and we have a 2-year-old daughter. My downtime mostly includes doing whatever my toddler wants to do and watching whatever movie she enjoys. But we also love to travel to the beach every year and when it’s cooler we enjoy being outside, too. I love spending time with my extended family as well. We still eat lunch together every Sunday. I talk to my twin sister every day and I call my mom two to three times a week. I also enjoy this time of year because college football is big for me. I love to watch any college team play but my blood runs deep in orange for the Clemson Tigers. On game day, you bet I’ll be watching. I also like to watch golf, volleyball and softball.
