What does a typical day at Arthrex look like for you?
My day begins by walking through the Molding Department to check the status of each machine. I need to verify that each machine is running well and producing parts that are to specification. After walking through the department, I attend the first and second shift information meeting to determine any issues that need monitoring during the shift. I provide each of the operators with a machine to run, and then answer any questions that they may have concerning the production needs. During the shift I assist with any issues that arise, including mold changes, conversions, machine setups and troubleshooting. At the end of the night, I complete my shift report and send emails if needed to inform the first shift supervisor and technicians of any issues during the night.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
Working in the Molding Department provides me with challenges every day, which I like. Sometimes the challenges are easily corrected, but others that I might not have seen before can be very challenging. I work with many types of machines in the department, and they all have their needs and issues at times. Programing the robots and vision system (cameras) are two of my favorite items to work within the department. I enjoy the programing of the robots and cameras, and troubleshooting issues with the molds and support machinery for the injection molding machines.
What has been a highlight during your time at Arthrex?
I have really enjoyed the growth and evolution of the department. When I started working at Arthrex in 2009, the Molding Department had five injection molders, and we currently have 16 molders. There are plans to increase the department by another four molders, bringing our total to 20. We’re currently working on standardizing each machine to reduce setup times. With this standardization, we have greatly reduced improper setups, tool damage and downtime. I take great pride knowing that I have had a part in making the department what it is today.
Our core value is Making People Better. How has Arthrex made you better?
Joining Arthrex actually changed my life in many ways. I was a heavy smoker for many years. The day that Arthrex called with my offer of employment, I decided to quit smoking. If I had not joined Arthrex, I have no doubt in my mind that I would have never stopped smoking. Every year on my anniversary of joining Arthrex, I remember that date in 2009 when I was able to put down the cigarettes. It has been 11 years since I quit and I have never regretted it.
The other life change was receiving all the tools and training I needed to become very successful in my job. My manager and supervisor have been instrumental in helping me achieve a successful career here at Arthrex.
I am very proud to part of the Arthrex family!
What do you do in your downtime?
I am married with two beautiful children, and we enjoy spending time together as a family. We spend our time going to the movies and having family BBQs.
