Global Compliance Audit Senior Manager Enock Chibende has worked in the medical device industry for a significant portion of his career, but working at Arthrex has been unlike any other work environment.

Enock had visited Naples, the site of Arthrex global headquarters, in the past and was immediately drawn to the beauty of Southwest Florida, so once he met Vice President of Risk Management & Compliance Peter Jensen and other team members, he was convinced that this was his next opportunity.

“I knew this is where I wanted to take my career next,” said Enock. “I’m almost three years in now and I know I made the right choice.”

What does a typical day at Arthrex look like for you?

Our team is responsible for performing compliance audits globally — at regional headquarters, subsidiaries and distributors. This is the process of ensuring the company’s financial records are consistent with its sales and inventory. Therefore, my role involves a lot of travel. I have oversight over compliance audits for Arthrex, supervising a team of auditors located in our EMEA and APAC regional headquarters. At any one time, my typical day is centered around planning for an audit, being physically onsite at a subsidiary or distributor performing an audit or working on a report of a completed audit.

Since our team is global, we often collaborate via Microsoft Teams and email. We’re constantly working together on audit planning, execution or reporting.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

I really enjoy being in a role that helps Arthrex manage risk and achieve our business objectives in a responsible way. There are many laws and regulations in the different markets Arthrex operates and our team assists the business to navigate those compliance rules in our pursuit for safe, sustained success.

I have also really liked meeting new people and the opportunities to work with individuals across the company, on a domestic and global level. There is just something about face-to-face meetings with people I’ve only worked with remotely that makes it more personal. Of course, we are currently just relying on emails and Teams calls due to COVID-19.

What has been a highlight during your time at Arthrex?

It’s difficult to pick just one memory as a highlight; however, one moment in particular that comes to mind is the time when my team member from Mexico City was here in Naples for an audit. Toward the end of the day he said he wasn’t feeling well, so I told him to go to the Arthrex Medical Center (AMC) to get checked out.

AMC was about to close for the evening, but within a few minutes, Arthrex Medical Center Director Paul Hobaica, MD, personally came over to our office and brought my team member into the clinic for an exam.

The next morning, Dr. Hobaica followed up to make sure he was feeling better. I was blown away by the amount of dedication and care for an employee’s well-being.

Our core value is Making People Better. How has Arthrex made you better?

I have worked for other companies where your coworkers are just that, coworkers. In my time here at Arthrex, I have established great and genuine working relationships and friendships. My wife even commented that she thinks I seem much happier at work and more relaxed when I’m home.

The relationships I have built here help me really enjoy every aspect of my job, which is a true testament to how Arthrex is Making People Better.

What do you do in your downtime?

When I’m not working, I’m usually spending time with my family. I just celebrated 21 years of marriage with my wife Patricia, and we have two boys who are 20 and 17. My family loves sports in general, but soccer is our true passion. Our younger son plays both travel and for his high school and our older son played all the way through high school and now plays club soccer at Florida Gulf Coast University.

We also love to travel as a family. We are from Zambia and most of our family still lives there, so we go back home every two or three years to visit. We had to postpone this year’s trip due to the pandemic, but hopefully we can get back before too long!

I love listening to music of pretty much any genre. My son and I actually DJ occasionally for our community with the small setup we have just for fun.
