Dawn Rubel is the newest member of Arthrex’s leadership team and said one of the biggest joys of her new job is being part of the amazing Regulatory Affairs and Quality Assurance teams working diligently to improve people’s lives. Bringing with her a wealth of experience in the medical device, biotechnology, pharmaceutical and therapeutics industries, she has jumped into her role, focusing on collaboration and global alignment of the Regulatory Affairs and Quality Assurance teams while advancing the Arthrex mission of Helping Surgeons Treat Their Patients Better™. She said that mission has been an incredible motivator in her first few months on the job. Read on to learn more about what drives her.

What does a typical day at Arthrex look like for you?

Since I am new to Arthrex, I try to learn something each day about Arthrex products, processes and people. Through formal training and informal discussions, my onboarding has led to some great insights and collaborations at all levels. A typical day includes breadth and depth – meeting with my colleagues on the Senior Leadership Team to develop and implement global strategies, and also conducting deep dives into products, processes and systems. With the current COVID situation, travel is restricted, but I try to visit AMIE regularly to observe the operations and hear from the team. I am looking forward to resuming a full travel schedule and visiting my colleagues worldwide!

What do you enjoy most about your job?

It is difficult to choose one thing! There is a tremendous satisfaction in the knowledge that our work helps improve people’s lives. Working with such a talented team to bring Arthrex’s high-quality products and techniques to patients across the globe is a great source of motivation. If I had to choose the most enjoyable aspect, it would be working with our brilliant, collaborative, driven team.

What has been a highlight during your time at Arthrex?

An early, memorable highlight was meeting with President and Founder Reinhold Schmieding and the Senior Leadership Team at an introductory luncheon. Learning about the history of Arthrex directly from the founder and some of the early builders was exciting and inspiring. Hearing their vision for the future and knowing that I would be a part of that has been a highlight and powerful motivator.

Our core value is Making People Better. How has Arthrex made you better?

In Regulatory and Quality, our job is to facilitate the regulated product lifecycle in a way that brings safe, high-quality medical devices to market in a culture of compliance and continuous improvement. Arthrex has made me better by its excellence – by fully committing to its mission, purpose and Arthrex Proud values for the good of patients worldwide. We are empowered and expected to do our best every day, and we are provided with a beautiful environment in which to do so.

What do you do in your downtime?

I prefer a balance between family activities and quiet time (although finding solitary time as a mom of twins can be a challenge!). My family and I have enjoyed exploring Southwest Florida. It is interesting to learn about the area and what it has to offer, from ecology to culture to cuisine. As COVID declines, I am looking forward to spending more time with my colleagues and our teams.
