• 5 Questions with Jonathan Hernandez - Medical Education Manager, Arthrex Mexico

How do you impact our mission of Helping Surgeons Treat Their Patients Better™ in your role?

As Regional Operations Manager for all LATAM subsidiaries, my role is to ensure that Arthrex products, instruments and equipment reach hospitals and clinics on time so that our surgeons can treat their patients. The entire LATAM Operations team knows that this work is essential for the success of these surgeries. We maintain the mindset that one of the patients could be a family member and we would want the surgeon operating on them to have all the solutions available to treat them.

What inspires you the most at Arthrex?

What inspires me most at Arthrex is the people: my teammates and the people I collaborate with in my work. Seeing how we all work towards a common goal sharing a common vision makes our daily work better. I am inspired to work in a place where I have the opportunity to collaborate with people who strive to be better every day.

What is your favorite success story at Arthrex?

In my 11 years with Arthrex, I have experienced many success stories in all of our LATAM subsidiaries. When I started at Arthrex, I worked with the Arthrex Mexico team in a similar role. One of the most satisfying examples is witnessing the professional and personal growth of our Arthrex México employees. Many of the employees who worked there when I started are not only still there, but have grown professionally and achieved personal fulfillment. They were able to continue their studies while at Arthrex and obtained positions of greater responsibility. Additionally, they improved their interpersonal and leadership skills, and now help their colleagues improve.

How do you describe the Arthrex culture?

The Arthrex culture focuses on its people above all else. We care about our colleagues and their well-being. We focus on collaboration and living the Arthrex values.

Our core value is Making People Better. How has Arthrex made you better?

Arthrex has made me better by offering me professional development opportunities. This formal training has helped me strengthen my leadership skills and better support my team. Through these courses I have matured professionally for the benefit of my collaborators and colleagues.

How do you impact our mission of Helping Surgeons Treat Their Patients Better® in your role?

I feel honored to belong to the medical education area since it is a position that allows you to be close to surgeons, listen to their needs and identify which Arthrex technique and/or product could help you contribute to the mission of the company and, likewise, contribute with some tip or surgical pearl that is helpful to them.

What inspires you the most at Arthrex?

Ultimately, the source of inspiration is the clear and objective mission of Arthrex, as well as collaboration and teamwork. It is fascinating to know the process involved in having a product in Mexico in which we are all involved, from obtaining documents for registration, the import process, inventory management, creating communication content for the new launch, promotion by part of sales, training through medical education and in the operating room the technicians who do a great job guiding the surgeon to the safe use of the product.

What is your favorite success story at Arthrex?

The overall success stories are seeing surgeons learn the safe and effective use of our products. Surgeons often come to training because they have an upcoming surgery scheduled and are seeking a good understanding of surgical technique to help better treat their patient. Cases of acromioclavicular dislocation, glenohumeral instability, cruciate ligament, among others, have been presented. On one occasion in the operating room there was a complication with a patella surgery and thanks to all the information in Arthrex and the experience obtained by collaborators, I was able to resolve said complication and make the surgery a success, always thinking about the benefit for the patient.

How do you describe Arthrex culture?

Arthrex's culture is unique, always seeking to improve people's quality of life, which makes us a family. I remember a few years ago the celebration of “Family Day”, having the opportunity to meet the family members of our collaborators, share experiences, games, dynamics, soccer games with falls in which there was always a hand to pick you up. and a meal in which the joy of each of us was perceived, which is a reflection of the Arthrex culture.

Our core value is Making People Better. How was Arthrex made you better?

Throughout these years at Arthrex I have sought to learn from each of the people with whom I have had the opportunity to talk, for this it is key to listen carefully and in the short, medium or long term future, carry out what I have learned. This includes both work and personal conversations that allow me to be a better person. Another example is training aimed at non-cognitive skills that give you the opportunity to introspect and continue seeking to be a better person with your family, with your collaborators, with the environment and with the world.
